Mind, Body & Soul
Staying fit and healthy is an important part of maintaining good mental and physical fitness at any age.
As people age, they require more physical and mental stimulation in order to maintain an active lifestyle and their independence.
Simply engaging in regular ability-appropriate exercises can help improve physical and mental health as well as strength and balance. This can reduce the chances of falling over, an often-overlooked cause of injury. Around 1 in 3 adults over 65 and half of people over 80 will have at least one fall a year which can cause a person to lose confidence, become withdrawn, and feel as if they have lost their independence.
Engaging in a healthy active lifestyle helps stimulate the brain, assists in staying independent and can be immensely enjoyable!
Some of the benefits of physical activity include:
-
Helps in the management of conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol
-
Improves the ability to function and stay independent where people have lung disease or arthritis
-
Reduces symptoms of depression and pain
-
Improves balance and prevents falls.
-
Reducing the risk of developing chronic diseases.
We support our customers in simple, healthy activities and exercises. Activities may include walking, dancing or simple strength exercises. We consider the ability and physical strength of our customer and what they enjoy so they are more likely to engage in the homecare support plan.
